  • 1kg red cabbage
  • 2 small sour apples
  • 1 onion
  • 40g margarine
  • 300mL vegetable stock
  • 1 small stick of cinnamon (or 1/2 teaspoon)
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 3 tbs red wine vinegar
  • 3 tbs of jelly/jam (apple, pineapple or quince)


Cut small thin stripes of red cabbage, slice apples, dice onions. Put butter in a pot, add all the ingredients into the pot (except pepper and jelly). Simmer on medium heat for 50 minutes. Finally add the pepper and jelly before serving.

Alternative Recipe

  • 2 organic untreated oranges
  • 50g butter
  • 250ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 50g sugar
  • 1 orange cut into filets


Cut peeled onion and orange with skin into thin slices. Boil butter in a large pot, add the slices and wait until they become yellow. Ad orange juice. Then add cabbage, salt & pepper and simmer with closed lid at low heat for 25min. Turn off the stove and add finely striped orange peel after 15min. Add orange filets. Season it for a sweet and sour taste, using jam?
